PITCHING

Set up with your chin in front of the ball with weight on your left

The pitch is a shot where it spends alot of the time in the air. It is used when you are too far to chip and too close to take a full swing. It's a bigger motion then the chip shot, basically with wrist hinge so the clubhead is above the knees on the backswing and follow-through. There are several keys to a basic pitch shot. Use the regular swing grip for pitching(CHECK GRIP ARCHIVE)

  • Address the ball with slightly open stance, you do this by flaring open your left toe

  • Put 60% of your weight on your left side

  • Lean the shaft forward slightly so the hands are in front of the ball

  • Take a 3/4 backswing, shaft should point to target line to stay on plane

  • Start downswing by shifting the weight to the left side

  • Keep your hands ahead of the ball to prevent any scooping or lifting motion

  • Swing downwards through the ball, the loft on the clubface will elevate the ball

  • Finish on your left side with right heel of the ground
The pitch shot is very similar to a 3/4 swing. Most important thing is to keep moving to your left side so you get the bottom of the arc in front of golf ball.
